Acquisition of the collections
The Musée de la Grande Guerre regularly enriches its collections, for there can be no end to the quest for a significant heritage.
To ensure that public interest is kept up, fill in gaps, bring new scientific and historical viewpoints to bear on the period concerned, and also to respond to conservation problems, any museum collection must be constantly developed and enriched.
The Museum’s present acquisition policy aims to create benchmark collections:
- rich in major ensembles in order to provide visitors with an exemplary itinerary,
- coherent, to ensure that the items making up an ensemble make sense together,
- balanced, so that each theme tackled in the permanent exhibition is fully and equally represented,
- plural, so that all fields are enriched (ethnographic items, fine arts, weapons, etc.).
