THE DIVERSITY OF THE MUSEUM’S COLLECTIONS
The richness of its collections enables the Museum to cover the development of technologies and military strategies as well as the drastic upheavals in societies and changes in mentalities.
The originality of the Musée de la Grande Guerre collections lies in their creator’s chosen approach: far from simply being an accumulation of items amassed over the course of the years, their contents act as real tools for understanding world history and the stories of the men and women who suffered through this tragic period.
This approach has resulted in a collection of remarkable diversity, comprising 20,000 objects and 30,000 documents, with such extraordinarily rare items as complete uniforms from most countries involved, alongside weapons and artillery, heavy equipment and objects from everyday life on the front and home front, as well as rich documentary and graphic arts collections.
