The museum is a place for discovery, learning and experimenting. It should awaken schoolchildren’s curiosity about history and provide them with an opening to other minds and mindsets that will later spur them on to visit other cultural sites. It is for this reason that the Musée de la Grande Guerre has provided itself with a determinedly contemporary museographic area.
The Musée de la Grande Guerre is open to everyone,an ideal place for encounters and exchanges and an invitation to call the present-day world into question in the light of the past.
The museum team has developed a mediation system adapted to people who have little experience of visiting museums, making good use of a wide range of educational tools – sensorial supports that enable visitors to gain better understanding of a particularly complex subject, the First World War.
Children rarely have the same relationship to history as adults do, and, in order to hold their attention, it is necessary to adapt and come up with means of mediation that are both modern and effective.
