Women exhibition

Women in the Great War

The exhibition is made up of 18 panel which tackle the question of the role and place of women during the first global conflict. Replacements in the fields and in the factories, white angels in the hospitals at the front or militant pacifists, they cover a range of roles and engage, some by the physical action, others by militancy and solidarity, in an effort parallel the men.

Each panel explores a theme, nurses, refugees, philanthropists or combatants and present a portrait of the women, some known, some less well known, who acted, resisted, defended their rights and mobilised during the conflict.

From Elisabeth, Queen of Belgium who became a nurse to Jeanne Paquin, a seamstress who spied on Felicie Pfaadt or the young watercolourist Elisabeth Rouy, these are all small stories that echo the many and give the exhibition an intimate tone, reflecting these female voices during the Great War.
