The museum collections
An outstanding collection telling the story of the men and women who lived through the first worldwide conflict.
In 2005, the Agglomeration Community of Pays de Meaux decided to acquire the collections put together over forty years by Jean-Pierre Verney, an acknowledged specialist on the Great War.
The originality of the Musée de la Grande Guerre collections lies in their creator’s chosen approach: far from simply being an accumulation of items amassed over the course of the years, their contents act as real tools for understanding world history and the stories of the men and women who suffered through this tragic period.
As he himself said, “the collections express the emotions, lassitude, anger, pride, separation, and many of the event’s many well- or little-known aspects”.
Since then, the collections have been regularly added to and enriched, thanks to the acquisition policy implemented by the Museum’s scientific team.
