Renovation of the American monument

Renovation complete!

Presented to France by the United States in 1932, in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives in the 1914 and 1918 Battles of the Marne, the American Monument “La liberté éplorée” [ Liberty Weeping ] has been undergoing total renovation over the last few months, to restore it to its full grandeur and beauty for the opening of the Musée de la Grande Guerre on 11 November. Sharing the same site with the museum, the American Monument is emblematic of the area’s places of memory and legitimises the location of the future museum alongside it.

Since 24 October, the scaffolding around it has been gradually dismantled, to reveal a monument restored to its former glory.

The American Monument is listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments.
