Installation Homage to colonial soldiers

Thousands of colonial soldiers and workers were mobilised in the world conflicts of the 20th century. Forced to leave their native countries to serve "Greater France", they were in the front line of the most terrible fighting and worked tirelessly for the war effort.

The Great War Museum is welcoming the installation of the Remem'beur Association, which traces the participation of colonial troops, their living conditions and the racial prejudice that they had to face.

Through texts, images and original audiovisual creations, the visitor will discover the history of these men from the French colonies, who came to fight on the different fronts, or work behind the lines, in the factories and on farms.

Remembering this story today also gives to the youngest members of society an idea of the essential role played by these men, some of whom were their ancestors.

Installation by the Remem’beur Association

From 8th May to 17th August 2020
