Women exhibition

Women in the Great War

Women during the First World War

Most exhibitions about the First World War cover life at the front, the weaponry, and the trenches. Focused mostly on the soldiers, they largely ignore the critical role of women in the war. The Great War museum at Meaux has sought to fill this gap by creating a mobile exhibit on Women in War.

Women in War, the exhibit :

Featuring 18 panels that can be rented on a weekly basis for exhibitions and events about the Great War, the exhibit brings to life the work not only of nurses serving behind the lines but also of the working women who replaced men in factories and on farms. It also tells the lesser-known stories of women pacifists who stood up in protest against the war.
The Great War museum lifts the curtain on an often forgotten part of our history and brings important and fascinating historical figures back to life from the “Nurse Queen”, Elisabeth of Belgium, to the spy Félicie Pfaadt and the activist fashion designer Jeanne Paquin.
